Universal Music will let fans remix songs from artists who agree.
Universal Music and the voice AI firm ElevenLabs signed a multi-year deal on Thursday. They will build a platform where fans make remixes, mashups and new vocal versions of licensed tracks. Only artists and songwriters who opt in take part, and no launch date exists yet.
Why it mattersLabels spent three years suing AI music firms, and now they are licensing them. If your favourite artist joins, remixing their song stops being a legal risk.
