Orange County Public Schools in Florida approved its first AI policy on July 29; it takes effect on August 11, the first day of the new school year. Students may use AI for background research but cannot hand in AI-written work as their own without a teacher's written permission, and must stay on district-approved platforms. Teachers have to publish their own AI ground rules in writing at the start of the year. The clause drawing the most attention is a prohibition aimed at staff: teachers may not run student work through AI-detection software and must judge suspected misuse some other way. Wake County in North Carolina is drafting the same stance, citing detectors' false positives.
