DeepSeek gave away the software that loosens Nvidia's grip.

DeepSeek open-sourced six software modules on 30 September that let large models train on Huawei's Ascend chips. The core is TileLang, a programming language it offers as a simpler replacement for Nvidia's CUDA. DeepSeek already uses it in its V4 model, and the two firms built a 128-chip Ascend supernode.

Why it mattersNvidia's real moat is CUDA, the software everyone learned, not only the chips themselves. A free bridge to Chinese hardware makes that moat shallower and the chip ban weaker.
