Judge: US government still lacks evidence for Anthropic 'supply chain risk' label
At a hearing on July 30, US District Judge Rita Lin said the Trump administration has not produced evidence justifying its designation of Anthropic as a supply-chain risk and its ban on federal use of the company's AI. She saw no proof Anthropic could secretly alter or disable delivered models, and called the argument that the company's public criticism justified the ban 'really troubling.' She is now deciding whether to make her March block permanent.
Why it mattersThe case will help define whether a government can cut off an AI lab over a policy dispute. A permanent block would shield AI companies that set limits on military use of their models.
