A humanoid robot startup committed $3.5 billion to rent AI chips.

Figure, which builds humanoid robots, signed a $3.5 billion deal with cloud provider Nscale on 3 September. The contract covers up to 100,000 Nvidia chips in Barstow, Texas, switching on in late 2027. Figure was valued at 39 billion dollars last year and needs the machines to train its robot brain.

Why it mattersRobot companies now buy computing power on the scale of national laboratories. The bill comes due years before any of these robots reach a home.
