Google put its AI chips in orbit to see whether they survive.
Google launched a fridge-sized satellite carrying four of its AI chips on 1 October. It rode a SpaceX rocket from California and was built with the satellite firm Planet. Google will now measure how radiation and extreme heat treat the chips.
Why it mattersData centres on the ground are running short of electricity and cooling water. If the chips hold up, the next ones may run on sunlight above you.
