The US proposed banning American investment in any Chinese AI maker.
The US Treasury proposed Thursday to bar Americans from funding AI developers in China, Russia, Iran, North Korea and Cuba. Today only some AI deals are banned, and the rest must simply be reported. Comments are open until 7 December, and the rule starts only after a final version sets a date.
Why it mattersIf you invest through a US fund, your money could no longer reach a Chinese AI startup. Shares bought on public stock markets stay exempt under the draft.
