The EU wants chatbots banned from acting like a child's friend.

The European Commission proposed the Kids Act on 17 September, its first rulebook for children online. Companion chatbots would start switched off for minors and could not fake feelings before 18. Parliament and member states must still agree, so nothing changes for months.

Why it mattersIf you raise or teach teenagers, this is the first law written against chatbot attachment. It also sets the pattern other governments copy, the way the privacy rules did.
