Microsoft's new laptop runs a 120-billion-parameter model offline.
Microsoft opened preorders on Wednesday for the Surface Laptop Ultra, built on an Nvidia RTX Spark chip. It starts at $2,599 and carries up to 128 gigabytes of memory shared by chip and graphics. Nvidia rates the top version at one petaflop, and the laptop ships on 16 October.
Why it mattersA model that size on your own disk means your files never leave the machine. The price still puts it out of reach for most people, including schools.
