California decides tonight whether AI can fire you by itself.
Governor Gavin Newsom must sign or veto California's remaining AI bills by the end of Wednesday. SB 947 would stop employers using an automated system alone to discipline or sack someone. A second bill, AB 1883, would ban workplace AI that reads emotions or collects neural data.
Why it mattersCalifornia sets the template other states copy, and most large employers operate there. Newsom vetoed a near-identical bill last year, so the outcome is genuinely open.
