Thailand is giving five million citizens a paid AI account for a year. Registration is open; the platform switches on 31 August.
Any Thai national aged 15 or over can register at de.aipass.net for the TH-AI Passport, a state-funded programme that opens more than 30 generative-AI models from over 14 providers — including OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and Anthropic — through a single platform called AiPASS, free to the user. Sign-up needs a Google, Microsoft or Apple account plus identity verification through ThaID or Thang Rath, and cannot be done on someone else's behalf. Registration opened on 19 August and took more than 300,000 people in half a day against a ceiling of five million places; the platform goes live on 31 August and access runs until 31 August 2027. Registering before 30 November puts you in the higher "Creator" tier, and AI courses for students, employees, civil servants and business owners are included. Unused allocations are passed to the waiting list. The contract is worth 1.62 billion baht from the country's digital economy fund. Conversations are sent to the foreign providers and retained for up to a year — one of the reasons opposition parties, a parliamentary committee and a complaint to the anti-corruption commission are all asking questions.
