Nvidia is buying the home of three million open AI models.
Nvidia confirmed on 3 September that it will buy Hugging Face for 12.93 billion dollars. The platform hosts three million models and half a million datasets used by 18 million developers. Nvidia says its chips will not be required, and regulators must clear the deal before it closes in 2027.
Why it mattersOne chipmaker will own the main shelf where open models are published and downloaded. Every rival that ships there now depends on a competitor for distribution.
