The World Bank will fly five to seven government teams to Seoul to work on the AI system they are already building. Applications close 2 October.

The World Bank, together with the Republic of Korea's Ministry of the Interior and Safety and its National Information Society Agency, is taking applications for the GovTech Bootcamp for AI in Governance and Public Administration. Between five and seven countries will be selected, one two-person team each, for five days in Korea from 7 to 11 December, with Seoul the tentative venue. It is fully funded: international travel and accommodation for both team members, invitation letters for visa purposes, and interpretation during sessions. Eligibility is narrow and worth reading carefully. Applicants must be government agencies — not NGOs, not international organisations — from countries the World Bank classifies as low or middle income, upper-middle included, and they must already be developing, piloting or deploying an AI tool aimed at a real governance or administrative problem. This is not a course for beginners: the week starts with site visits into Korea's public and private AI ecosystem, then moves into workshops where teams build a technically grounded implementation roadmap with Korean practitioners and World Bank staff. Applications go through the official online form and close on 2 October 2026.

Why it mattersMost AI capacity-building offers aimed at governments are webinars. This one asks you to arrive with a system in progress and leave with a plan for finishing it, which is a different and much rarer thing — and the reason the eligibility bar is set where it is. If you work in a ministry, a municipality or a state agency that has an AI pilot half-built and stuck on the unglamorous parts — procurement, data quality, who signs off when the model is wrong — this is aimed squarely at you. The five-to-seven-country limit means the odds are long, but the application itself forces the useful exercise: writing down what your tool is actually for, what stage it is at, and what specifically is blocking it. Note the deadline is 2 October and the trip is in December, so a nomination inside your own institution needs to start well before the form does.
