California asked experts to design a kill switch for AI.
Governor Gavin Newsom signed an order on Friday telling experts to draft new AI safety rules in two months. Top of their list is a kill switch that could shut a frontier model down in an emergency. The order also pulls California's AI auditor programme forward from January 2029 to December 2027.
