A Berkeley professor says OpenAI's Fourier speed-up is useless.

Ben Recht, a Berkeley professor, examined one of the AI-written maths papers OpenAI posted last week. The paper claims a Fourier transform, a core signal-processing calculation, that beats the 1965 standard method in theory. Recht estimates the old method stays faster for any input a real computer could hold.

Why it mattersA result can be new on paper yet change nothing in the software you use. Counting AI-written papers tells you little about what they are worth.
