AI erased the Nairobi trade of writing other students' homework.
The New York Times reports that Kenya's essay writing business has shrunk to almost nothing in two years. At its peak about 40,000 people in Nairobi wrote papers for overseas students, earning 40 to 70 dollars each. The work left is editing AI drafts by hand so university detection software does not flag them.
Why it mattersThis is the clearest picture yet of an online job market that AI removed rather than reshaped. Kenya trained graduates for this work, so a country's digital plan can age faster than a career.
