DeepSeek is building a 1-gigawatt AI data center on the Inner Mongolian steppe
Bloomberg reports that DeepSeek plans roughly one gigawatt of computing capacity in Ulanqab, about 350 km from Beijing, combining a new self-built facility with leased capacity. Chinese job listings for data-center engineers had signaled the buildout for months; the region offers cold weather for natural cooling, cheap renewable power and low-latency links to Beijing.
