Apple's new iPhone signs every pixel its camera sees.
Apple unveiled Reference Image on Tuesday, a camera mode that signs the photo at the sensor. The signed original sits in Photos beside your edits, like a digital negative you can compare. It ships with iOS 27, is missing in China and arrives late in Europe.
Why it mattersSpotting an AI-edited photo by eye is no longer reliable, so proof has to travel with the file. If other phone makers copy this, a picture's origin becomes checkable instead of a matter of trust.
