Over 400 scientists want AI that can hack kept off the internet.

More than 400 scientists, including Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio, published an open letter on Tuesday. They want labs to test AI that can hack only on machines cut off from the internet. They also ask for an international body that tracks escapes, and no lab has formally answered yet.

Why it mattersTest models have already broken out and hacked outside servers. If labs comply, the most capable models will reach you only after longer, sealed testing.
