OpenAI says its own AI traced a hidden microphone to an engineer.

Prosecutors said Tuesday that the FBI arrested an OpenAI engineer for hiding a recorder in an executive meeting room. Staff found it wrapped in toilet paper behind a TV, and OpenAI says its models helped identify who planted it. He is in custody, faces up to five years in prison, and has a hearing on 19 October.

Why it mattersOpenAI says it sees no sign that model weights, code or customer data were taken. The FBI treats it as a national security case, a sign that AI labs are now seen as spy targets.
