California now needs a human before AI fires anyone.
Governor Gavin Newsom signed 13 artificial intelligence bills on Wednesday, his last day to act. One law bans firing or disciplining a worker on an automated system's word alone. A human must corroborate the decision from July 2027, and workers get written notice.
