Japanese used bookshops are selling 100 books a day to strangers.
Nippon TV found that bulk orders have flooded Japanese second-hand bookshops since around August. One shop sells 100 books a day, and export records show over 50 tonnes went to the United States. The parcels all headed to a single logistics centre in Okayama, and sellers suspect AI training.
Why it mattersClean text on the open web has run short, and paper books are the next supply. Nobody has said who is buying, which is what makes an ordinary bookshop boom uneasy.
