Amazon is in talks to buy the startup Anthropic walked away from.
The Wall Street Journal reported on 11 October that Amazon is in talks to buy Decart for about $7 billion. Decart is an Israeli startup whose software gets more work out of AI chips. Anthropic dropped a $6 billion deal for it in September, and nothing is signed with Amazon yet.
Why it mattersChips are the scarcest resource in AI, so software that stretches them now commands billions. Whoever owns it can run models more cheaply than rivals.
