PwC published AI-generated reports with invented sources and customers

An investigation by detection firm GPTZero found that four PwC Middle East "thought leadership" reports leaned heavily on generative AI and shipped with hallucinated content: citations to World Economic Forum and MIT Technology Review articles that don't exist, a fabricated academic study, and claims that governments in Denmark, Saudi Arabia, the US and Australia use a PwC product — with no evidence any of them do. One report scored 100% AI-generated outside its references; a footnote URL even carried a chatgpt.com tag. PwC says it is updating a limited number of citations.

Why it mattersCompanies pay Big Four firms precisely for vetted expertise, and this is the second such scandal after Deloitte's — the reputational core of the consulting business is what's at stake. It's also a reminder that unverified AI output is now flowing into documents that governments and boards make decisions with.
