Connecticut now asks whether AI caused the layoffs.

Connecticut's artificial intelligence law took effect on Thursday, starting with its workplace rules. Employers filing mass layoff notices must now tell the state whether AI drove the job cuts. Blaming a vendor's algorithm is no longer a defence in a Connecticut discrimination claim.

Why it mattersIf you lose your job in Connecticut, the paperwork now has to record whether software was involved. The bigger duty, telling job applicants when AI screened them, starts in October 2027.
