Google Photos' new Video Remix rebuilds your clips with AI — relighting, new backgrounds, art styles
Google added a 'Video Remix' tool to Google Photos that transforms clips of up to 10 seconds in moments: ask Gemini to relight a dark scene, swap the background entirely, or restyle the footage as watercolor, sketchbook or oil painting. Powered by the Gemini Omni model, it rolls out to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers aged 18+ in a first wave of countries including the US, India, Japan, Brazil and Turkey.
Why it mattersVideo generation is leaving the demo stage and landing inside an app billions already use. When remixing a clip becomes as easy as writing a sentence, the volume of AI-altered video in feeds explodes — which makes both the creative upside and the 'is this footage real?' question part of everyday life.
