Anthropic is quietly pitching Congress its own AI safety law.
Anthropic has shown US lawmakers a draft bill on frontier AI safety, Politico reported Friday, citing three people. The government could block a model only if it risked over 50 deaths or $1 billion in damage. Anthropic told Reuters the draft reflects the AI framework it published earlier this year.
Why it mattersThe thresholds decide when a government may stop an AI release, so they would shape every lab, not just Anthropic. Only the Commerce Department could act, through a judge, and no other agency could pause a model.
