Qualcomm will design custom AI chips for Amazon's data centres.
Qualcomm announced on Tuesday a multi-generation deal to build custom inference silicon for Amazon Web Services. The two will also develop optical links reaching 1.6 terabits per second. Qualcomm shares rose about ten percent, though neither side gave a value or a date.
Why it mattersNvidia supplies most of the chips that answer your prompts, and that keeps prices high. A second serious supplier inside Amazon is the clearest crack in that grip yet.
