Britain's state research chief quit days after joining Anthropic.

Matt Clifford resigned on 7 September as chair of ARIA, Britain's advanced research agency. He had joined Anthropic five days earlier to lead its work with governments abroad. ARIA is an Anthropic customer, so Clifford hands over the chair on 6 November.

Why it mattersThe chair of a public agency had ended up working for one of its own suppliers. Governments keep losing their AI advisers to the companies those advisers were meant to watch.
