Teachers unions made Microsoft's school AI promises legally binding.

The two largest US teachers unions and Microsoft announced a National AI Safety and Privacy Standard on Wednesday. It bans training AI on student data, keystroke logging and automated grading without a human review. Districts can add it to Microsoft contracts from 1 November, and no other AI company has signed yet.

Why it mattersIf your child's school uses Microsoft tools, these limits become a term the district can enforce. Everything outside that contract, including most other classroom AI, still rests on promises alone.
