A Cold War uranium plant will become a $100 billion AI campus
The US Energy Department picked Brookfield and NextEra to convert the shuttered Paducah uranium-enrichment site in Kentucky into a 1.8-gigawatt AI data center campus, backed by roughly $100 billion in private investment. The plan includes 2 gigawatts of new gas-fired generation — the state's largest — plus 2.6 gigawatts of battery storage, with construction due to finish by 2031 and about 8,000 building jobs along the way.
