Microsoft says its own chips will become the main engine for its AI.
Microsoft unveiled its third in-house AI chip, the Maia 300, on 12 October. The company says it yields 40% more output per megawatt than leading graphics-chip systems. Data centres get it in 2027, and no outside lab has tested the claim.
Why it mattersThe cost of running Copilot and similar assistants depends heavily on the chips underneath. If Microsoft's numbers hold, it gains room to cut prices and lean less on Nvidia.
