A $15 million fund will help mathematicians decide how to use AI.

The Simons Foundation said on Thursday that it, Anthropic and OpenAI will commit $15 million in money and resources. The foundation will run workshops where mathematicians check AI-made results and agree on shared rules. Part of the money goes through an open call, and the two labs will also give researchers computing power.

Why it mattersLast week a group led by Terence Tao asked mathematicians to stop working with OpenAI. This fund lets the field set its own rules, but with money from the same labs.
