A court let the Pentagon blacklist Anthropic over safety rules.

A federal appeals court in Washington ruled 2-1 on Friday that the blacklisting can stand. Anthropic had refused to let the military use Claude for autonomous weapons or domestic surveillance. The label keeps the military and its contractors off Claude, and Anthropic is weighing an appeal.

Why it mattersA safety rule is now a business risk, so the next lab may write softer limits. Whatever the Pentagon buys instead will refuse fewer orders than the model it turned down.
