OpenAI is giving away $1 billion of cyber AI to small defenders.
OpenAI opened a $1 billion programme called Daybreak for Frontline Defenders on 3 September. Water utilities, grid operators, local governments, community banks, nonprofits and open-source maintainers can apply. Approved groups get subsidised access to its cyber models, plus training and technical help. Applications go through the Daybreak site, and the credits are meant to be used within six months.
Why it mattersThe people running your water and your local bank rarely have a security budget. This puts a frontier attacker's toolkit on the defending side.
