Sony and Warner are suing Anthropic's founders, not just the company.

Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell sued Anthropic in California federal court on 29 August. The suit names Dario Amodei and Benjamin Mann personally and asks up to 150,000 dollars per song. Anthropic disagrees with the claims and says it will defend itself robustly in court.

Why it mattersAnthropic already paid 1.5 billion dollars to settle a piracy claim brought by authors. Suing founders in person raises the stakes for whoever signs off on training data.
