Z.ai opened GLM-5.3's weights but dropped the MIT licence
The full weights of GLM-5.3 were uploaded to Hugging Face on 28 August. The previous three models carried a plain MIT licence; this one has a bespoke licence. Companies earning over ten billion dollars must pass a safety review before selling it.
Why it mattersThis is a new shape for open weights: a limit on who resells, not on who uses. A licence clause is not a safety control and means nothing to anyone who already downloaded it.
