A model trained at home in two hours tied a paid decision service.
A developer released Jeff, a set of small open models that pick between options instead of writing text. They copy the request format of the paid service Jev and score 83.1% across five tests against its 83.0%. Each answer takes about 25 milliseconds on one workstation card.
Why it mattersPlenty of products pay a service just to sort or route text, and that bill can now go away. The trade is real, because Jeff still falls behind on the harder reasoning tests.
