Anthropic handed a user's diary entry to the police.
A Florida woman wrote to Claude on 26 September that she planned to shoot up a sheriff's office. Claude's safety system flagged it, a human reviewer judged the threat credible and alerted police. She now faces a second-degree felony, and reporters count at least three such referrals since August.
