Y Combinator open-sources qm: a 'multiplayer' AI agent workspace for whole companies
Y Combinator released qm, an open-source 'multiplayer agent harness' that gives every employee an isolated AI workspace — with their own memory, files, permissions and scheduled jobs — while letting teams collaborate with the same agent in Slack channels, group messages and shared projects. It is deliberately vendor-neutral: Pi, OpenCode, Codex and Claude Code can all drive the same core. The repo collected roughly 4,000 GitHub stars in its first three days and topped Hacker News.
Why it mattersMost agent products are built as personal assistants; qm treats the whole company as the unit, which is where real workplace adoption is heading. Being open source and model-agnostic, it also pushes back against vendor lock-in.
