Cursor will now host your code as well — and it is redesigning the pull request for agents rather than people

Cursor announced Origin on 17 August, its own code hosting service, rolling out in early beta to all paid users except enterprise organisations whose administrators opt out. Repositories, browsing, search, and pull requests with timelines, commits, checks and file-level review now live inside the editor, next to the agents. Cursor's claim is that this is built for agent scale rather than being a GitHub clone: because the code, the reviews and the agents sit in one place, you can ask a question about a repository you are reading and have it answered, have the change made, or push a branch without leaving. GitHub is not being replaced. Repositories sync both ways in real time, GitHub stays the source of truth for anything started there, and comments cross over within seconds. Integrations with Vercel, Depot and Buildkite are live, and Depot and Buildkite can run existing GitHub Actions workflows. GitHub happened to suffer a major outage the same day, which most accounts got the wrong way round: Origin started rolling out about three and a half hours before GitHub fell over.

Why it mattersThe pull request was designed around a scarce resource: human attention. One person writes a change, another reads it, and the whole ritual assumes both are rare and slow. Agents break that arithmetic. They open changes faster than anyone can read them, and the review surface becomes the bottleneck instead of the writing. Origin is the first serious attempt by a coding-tool company to redraw that surface from scratch, and it comes with an obvious strategic prize: whoever hosts the repository sees every change, every review, every workflow — the position GitHub has held for fifteen years and which now looks like the most valuable seat in the room. The two-way sync is the tell. It is engineered so that trying it costs nothing today, which is exactly how you get people to move.
