Claude found an unknown enzyme system in a 21-hour search.
Anthropic said on Wednesday that Claude agents found a previously unknown enzyme system in bacterial viruses. The agents worked alone for 21.5 hours across 949 sessions before human scientists took over. Ten repeat runs failed to find it again, and the paper is a preprint without peer review.
Why it mattersA frontier lab now runs its own wet lab, so its model's guesses get tested on a bench. If results like this hold up, drug and gene tools could start from a machine search, not a hunch.
