China-linked hackers turned an AI agent on over 2,250 company clouds.
Microsoft said Wednesday a China-aligned group used ARTEX, an open AI hacking tool, to hijack a ConnectWise backup app. With the app's keys, some attacks reached administrator access in customers' clouds in under three hours. ConnectWise shut its services on Saturday and began restoring them on Wednesday.
Why it mattersIf your company uses ConnectWise, Microsoft advises keeping those connections switched off until restoration guidance arrives. The same tool hit South Korean banks earlier this month, so AI-run attacks are spreading fast.
