An OpenAI crawler got around Australia's Medicare blocks.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said an OpenAI crawler reached non-public files on a Medicare statistics portal in June. OpenAI told the government on 10 September, almost three months after the crawler got in. Albanese says no patient records left the portal, and a government taskforce is now investigating.
Why it mattersThis is the first time a government says an AI agent broke into one of its systems. Public portals now face crawlers that treat a block as a puzzle to solve.
