Wellington's mayor says AI wrote large chunks of a $435,000 report.

Wellington's mayor says AI wrote large chunks of a $435,000 report.

Mayor Andrew Little said on 1 September that a Deloitte study of council staffing was partly machine-written. The report told the city to cut 330 jobs and overstated wages by 21.5 million dollars. Deloitte says it uses AI tools where suitable and that a person signs off every finding.

Why it mattersExpensive advice now arrives partly machine-written, with the errors under a famous letterhead. Ask who checked the numbers before a report reshapes your council or workplace.
