Alphabet just gave away the software layer under factory robots.
Alphabet's robotics unit Intrinsic open-sourced its core software on Tuesday at a robotics conference. The free release covers real-time robot control, motion planning, grasp planning, simulation and camera calibration. It already ships with drivers for arms made by FANUC and Universal Robots.
