Portugal wants teachers to set a traffic light for AI in class.
Portugal's education ministry opened a 30-day public consultation on rules for AI in schools on October 15. Each task gets one of three modes: no AI, AI only for steps the teacher sets, or AI built in. Pupils could use AI on their own only from fifth grade, and the final rules reach schools in January.
Why it mattersChildren under 13 would need their parents' permission for school AI tools and no personal accounts. The guidance is not binding, but it offers a middle path between New York's ban and open use.
