Italy found 44% of its pupils lack the basics to use AI.
Italy's testing agency told parliament that the first phase of its school AI trial has ended. Its president said 44% of middle-school pupils lack the reading and maths the tools require. Fifteen schools took part, and only one of them sits in the poorer south.
Why it mattersAn AI tutor helps the pupil who can already read the answer it gives. Italy now has a number for that gap and puts 100 million euros against it.
