China's foreign ministry hit back on Monday at Anthropic boss Dario Amodei's call to slow AI down. Amodei had asked Washington to keep blocking advanced chip sales to China. Spokesman Guo Jiakun said fearmongering and confrontation only disrupt the search for global rules.
Why it mattersThe industry's slowdown pact only works if China joins, and Beijing just rejected the premise. A pause agreed only in Washington would leave Chinese labs running at full speed.
