XPeng's humanoid robot walked off the assembly line by itself.

XPeng's humanoid robot walked off the assembly line by itself.

XPeng opened a humanoid robot production line in Guangzhou on Tuesday, and IRON walked off it unaided. More than 80 percent of the line's core steps run without people, the carmaker says. Mass production is due by the end of this year, with sales in China and abroad in 2027.

Why it mattersHumanoids have been built by hand in small batches, and a real line is what makes them cheap. XPeng will put the first ones in its own shops before anyone else can buy one.
